Our pure, refreshing spring water is something you can enjoy readily, but in times past (and in some countries, it is still the case today), water was not so easy to come by. At least not in abundance and in a pure form. One way of finding water is by dowsing. While some may see dowsing as a strange, esoteric practice, others know it to work simply because it is proven to do so time and again.

Dowsing as practiced today may have originated in Germany during the 15th century, when it was used mainly to find metals. The dowser holds the forks in each hand with the third stem pointing straight ahead. The dowser then walks slowly over the places where he suspects the minerals or water may be located. The rod supposedly then dips, inclines or twitches when a discovery is made.

Another approach is to use a pair of L-shaped metal rods, held by the handles parallel to one another. When swing and cross one another, that is meant to be the apex of the desired find. A third way is the use of a pendulum made of crystal, metal or other materials suspended on a chain. The user first determines which direction (left-right, up-down) indicates “yes” and which “no”. Next they will ask questions such as “Is the water here?” while dangling the pendulum over a piece of ground, moving from patch to patch until a “yes” answer comes through as the pendulum swings in the relevant direction.

Of course you now needn’t bother with such approaches – all you have to do is open up a bottle of our delicious spring water.

Natural spring water has been at the heart of many religious and secular ceremonies for centuries. Even if doesn’t come from a spring water is regarded as symbolising purity.

In ancient Greek religion, a holy water called chernips was created when a torch from a religious shrine was extinguished in it. In this religion purifying people and locations with water was part of the process of distinguishing the sacred from the profane. The Jewish Torah mentions using holy water in a test for the purity of a wife accused of marital infidelity. Sikhs use holy water used in the baptism ceremony known as Amrit Sanskar or Amrit Chhakhna. In Wicca, although the term holy water is not used, a similar substance is produced when salt is mixed with water. In Buddhism, the term holy water is not used, but “blessed water” instead. Water is put in to a new pot and kept near a Paritrana ceremony, a blessing for protection. Thai ‘Lustral water’ can be created in a ceremony in which the burning and extinction of a candle above the water represents the elements of earth, fire, and air. Drinking “healing water” is a practice in various denominations of Islam.

Holy water has also been believed to ward off mythical evil creatures, such as vampires. But, for the record, we make no claim that drinking natural spring water will protect you from Count Dracula’s bite!

There’s no doubt that spring water is the healthiest water there is, but do we drink enough of it?

Some research has been done on how much water we need, and it’s clear we often don’t drink as much as we should. For one thing, the older we get the less evident the sensation of thirst, or we sometimes confuse thirst with hunger or a urge to drink alcohol, fizzy drinks, coffee and the like.

A mature person who is averagely active and lives a temperate climate needs around 10-15 cups of water a day for their essential body functions (like breathing, brain activity, blood circulation, digestion, locomotion, perspiration and elimination). The recommended intake is 13 cups for men and about nine cups for women, including the water we get from other beverages and food. There are cases of people being constipated because they don’t eat enough fruit and vegetables – two or three glasses of water first thing in the morning can be an effective laxative. In older people inadequate water intake can directly or indirectly cause hypertension, circulation disorders, kidney stones, arthritis, indigestion and constipation. Pregnant women need more water to supply the growing demand of the child and women who are breast-feeding women require it to produce sufficient breast milk. Finally, children need more water than adults because of the amount of energy they burn in both physical and mental activities.

Reasons enough, if any were needed, to drink plenty of cool, fresh spring water.

Bottled spring water can be used for beauty treatments and therapeutic purposes as well as being delicious to drink.

An herbal facial steam is wonderful cosmetic treatment that has immediate effects. The humidity and concentrated temperature of the steam purges impurities from the skin, then softens and prepares it for the application of an herbal moisturiser. A quick recipe is to use 1 cup calendula, chamomile or lavender blossoms and 4 cups spring water. First, pin or tie back your hair, then wash your face thoroughly. Choosing one or a mixture of the herbs, 1 cup fresh, or 1/2 cup dried, and place them in a large ceramic bowl. Bring the 4 cups of water to the boil, and then pour it over the herbs. Cover your head with a large towel to form a tent over the bowl. Hold your head about 12 inches over the bowl, allow the steam to surround your face for around 10 minutes, or as long as you feel comfortable. Your face and neck will be become flushed and supple. Next, cool the face down by sponging it with tepid water, or an infusion of cool lavender or chamomile water. It is best to remain indoors for about an hour to let your skin adjust to its normal temperature.

Remember, the purer the water, the better and more effective the beauty treatment. This facial steam treatment is just one of many beauty treatments which has water as a central ingredient. And with out bottled spring water you have the additional convenience of a top quality ingredient readily at hand.

Can drinking Spring Water improve your brain function? The answer appears to be a resounding “yes”. It has been scientifically proven that drinking plenty of water can improve your memory, focus and concentration.

The brain is one of the most important organs in your body, so it is especially important to keep it fuelled. It is approximately 85 percent water and brain function depends on having access to plenty of water. Water gives the brain the electrical energy for functions including thought and memory processes. According to Dr. Corinne Allen, founder of the Advanced Learning and Development Institute, brain cells need twice the energy of other cells in the body. And water provides this energy more effectively than any other substance. Water is also necessary for the brain’s production of hormones and neurotransmitters. Nerve transmission requires one-half of all the brain’s energy.

When your brain is functioning on a full reserve of water, you will be able to think faster, be more focused, and experience greater clarity and creativity. Daily hydration will not only help you to think better but it can also help prevent attention deficit disorder in children and adults. The reason for this is because your brain does not have any way to store water. When your body loses more water than you are replacing, you will dehydrate, which will affect brain function.

You should also note that it is important to drink pure water, since tap water and other kinds of water may contain artificial additives, so Spring Water is the perfect brain hydrator.

Poetry and Valentine’s Day is a marriage made in heaven, and Natural Spring Water brings to mind some wonderful love poetry linked to water. You could quote some of these to your loved or write them in a card for your 14th February celebrations.

“Love is the only water that can quench the heart’s thirst.” Basava (1134-1196) wrote: “When/like a hailstone crystal/like a waxwork image/the flesh melts in pleasure/how can I tell you? The waters of joy/ broke the banks/and ran out of my eyes.” Zeynen Hatun (15th century) may have been writing about spiritual love as well as earthly love in the following verses: “I am a fountain, You are my water./I flow from You to You./I am an eye, You are my light,/I look from You to You./You are neither my right nor my left./You are my foot and my arm as well./I am a traveller, You are my road./I go from/You to You.”

In recent times, too, love and water have been wrapped together in the lyrics of popular songs. Everyone must know, for example, Mark Knopfler’s lyrics for the band Dire Straits: “Water of love, deep in the ground.” And the more expansive oceanic sort of love in songs like “Sea of Love” by Otis Redding: “Come with me, oh my love/to the sea, the sea of love.”

No doubt you can find your own inspirational poetry linking love and water, with Natural Spring Water of course symbolic of love in its purest form.

If you know the art, you might be able to use dowsing to locate a spring under the earth, though it’s not the method we use for our Bottled Spring Water. Dowsing is a type of divination used in attempts to locate ground water, buried metals, gemstones, oil, and more.

Dowsing is also known as divining or, in the USA, doodle bugging. When referring specifically to the search for water it is known as water witching or water dowsing. Although many cultures and individuals set great store in dowsing there is no scientific evidence that it is effective. The method typically used by the diviner is a dowsing rod, often a rod in a Y or L shape. Metal rods are also used, or no equipment at all.

Dowsing may have originated in 15th century Germany, when it was used to find metals. In 1518 Martin Luther listed dowsing for metals as an act that broke the first commandment about occultism. In 1662 dowsing was declared “superstitious, or rather Satanic” by a Jesuit, Gaspar Schott. In the South of France in the 17th century dowsing was used to track down criminals and heretics. But, this tactic was sometimes abused, leading to a decree of the inquisition in 1701, forbidding its employment for purposes of justice.

During the Vietnam War, some United States marines dowsed to locate weapons and tunnels. Whether you believe all this or not, rest assured at least that Bottled Spring Water is good for you – and that’s a scientific fact.

Spring Water can be used in a very direct way – to help the body flush out potentially harmful chemicals. Just as chemicals are becoming increasingly part of our environment, so we are becoming more sensitive to them. Children, especially can develop serious health problems from exposures to common chemicals found in our food, water and environment. The more we recognise and understand the danger, we will start asking how we might combat the dangers and eliminate chemicals from our bodies. A big part of being more aware, and educated, is to think about the water we drink.

Researchers have found that children with high levels of pesticides in their urine were almost twice as likely to develop attention deficit disorder as those with undetectable levels. That’s just one symptom of chemical toxicity. Others sensitivities to chemicals include skin rashes, sinusitis, headaches, asthma, digestive problems, urinary infections, boils, and even emotional instability and an inability to focus or exhibit uncontrollable behaviours.

Water can used to flush the system and re-hydrate the cells. But this flushing is only effective with chemical free water. Once a chemical, flavour or bubbles are added to water. Then it needs to be filtered or digested, which means it can no longer flush your system.

So, if you think you may be experiencing some side effects from chemicals in some of the products you handle every day, Spring Water is the ideal choice to help your system flush them through.

Nowadays, it seems, many celebrities are just as likely to ask for Bottled Spring Water instead of champagne for their dressing room or their Oscar event table. Amusing tales of prima donnas and their demands for fruit from some obscure atoll in the middle of the Pacific, to young men who will meet their every whim, now include humble H2O.

Not too long ago, Sarah Palin insisted on two bottles of ‘unopened still water” with “bendable straws” on top of her demand for a specific model of private jet. This, mind you, on top of her $75,000 plus speaker fee. Former US Vice President, Dick Cheney, insisted on four to six bottles of water in his room, along with two bottles of “Sparkling water (Calistoga or Perrier)” if his wife accompanied him. The heavy metal band AC/DC once asked for spring water in their dressing room — as well as three oxygen tanks and three masks! Mariah Carey wanted mineral water so that she and her dog could bathe in it. Singer Sheryl Crow tries to be green and insists that everything be recyclable, biodegradable and organic. It’s known that backstage she asked for “watering stations,” with water that “must be sourced from a local spring water vendor”.

So there you have it, Bottled Spring Water is the premiere choice of the stars; only you don’t have to be a celebrity to insist on drinking it.

Bottled Spring Water can be used to make flower essences to treat animals and people, much like homeopathic remedies. Here is the basic method for making your own essences. But be sure to research the specific qualities of each essence before you attempt to use them. You’ll need a glass bowl, stainless steel tweezers, cobalt blue or amber glass dropper bottles sterilised in boiling water, a glass funnel, some labels and brandy (as a preservative). Fill the bowl with your water. Pick blossoms or petals with the tweezers, from only the healthiest organically grown plants. Cover the surface of the water with them. Pick only one kind of flower at a time.

Leave the water and flowers in the sunshine for three hours. Fill your bottles halfway with brandy. Again with tweezers, remove the flowers and any debris from the water. Add this water to the bottles containing the brandy, filling them to the neck, then seal and label them (be sure to include the date). If you’re making more than one essence, wash your hands before proceeding to the next flower. You now have a tincture. Make your essences potent by shaking the bottle or by hitting its bottom against the heel of your hand eight shakes or firm taps at a time.

For everyday use, add two drops of the tincture to another dropper bottle filled with equal amounts of water and a small amount of brandy. A good rule of thumb is to mix one ounce of Bottled Spring Water, two drops flower essence, and one teaspoon of brandy; or substitute one teaspoon vegetable glycerine for the brandy, if you want to avoid alcohol.
